Freelance Files #01: 5 Tips to Win on Fiverr
Tips for new sellers to succeed on the platform

Hey!
Welcome to Edition #01 of the Freelance Files.
I’ll try to keep these short, sweet, and value-packed for you.
Many of you are newer freelancers looking to grow on the platform. You understand what Fiverr is and the power of the platform, but are struggling to get off the ground.
If that sounds familiar, this edition is for you.
I put together 5 tips to focus on if you’re struggling to get started on Fiverr. They are the pillars of your profile and reputation and should be your main focus early on.
1. Discover and Unleash Your Niche:
Master your domain: Don't aim to be a jack of all trades. Focus on what you’re good at and deliver great work.
A client of mine is both a health/fitness trainer and salesman. When we started working together, his Fiverr profile was half fitness, half sales gigs.
The result?
Confused buyers, no sales.
We did some A/B testing and revamped his profile to focus on just one niche at a time. His sales gig ended up taking off as soon as we removed any mention of fitness from his page.
Don’t confuse your buyers. You’re better off going an inch-wide and mile deep on a niche when starting out. Buyers should be 100% confident that you are the dedicated expert in your field.
2. Keywords are King:
Find the highest ranking keywords for your niche and make sure they’re in your title, tags, and description. Sprinkle them throughout, but be careful not to keyword stuff.
Fiverr doesn’t magically suggest your gigs to buyers who need it. Your gig metadata should match what your ideal buyer is searching for.
HINT: Search for your niche in the Search Bar. The drop down menu will tell you exactly what keywords you should be including throughout your gig…

3. Pricing:
This is a tough one. Starting out with no reviews, it’s going to be difficult to convince buyers to use you over someone more established.
I built my profile by cutting my rates pretty drastically and grinding through orders to build a review stack. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked.
I hate to suggest dropping prices until you have a few reviews, but it’s a proven method.
An alternative would be to drive external traffic to your gig. If you have existing clients already, asked them to order from your Fiverr gig a few times to build up your profile. It’ll help build up your rank without sacrificing your rates.
If you’re going with the low price method, don’t forget to raise your rates as you continue to get orders. You will not disappear from search. You will make more money. Worst case scenario? You lower them again and try again later.
4. Reviews, Reviews, Reviews:
You’ve heard underpromise, overdeliver from me and others many times before.
There’s a reason.
For your first few orders, you have a very small sample size that Fiverr can work work with, so it’s important you impress.
They need to figure out if you’re legit and you’ll probably only get a handful of chances to prove it to them.
After your provide amazing service, make sure your buyer reciprocates by leaving great feedback. Ask them for an honest review (both public/private) and make sure you get it!
Early reviews are crucial - they’re the only form of social proof you’re working with.
5. Stay Connected:
Keep an open tab on your computer at all times. Let Fiverr know you’re on the platform, ready to respond and ready to work.
The more visible you are the higher your chances of catching a potential buyer's attention.
Make it a point to reply to messages promptly.
BONUS: Show your face and create professional gig images!
Buyers want to work with PEOPLE! Don’t be afraid to put a picture of yourself with a smile and personify yourself. Include your picture in all of your gig images to stand out from the crowd.
(Yes, I understand the irony. An animated figure works too!)
Those are the 6 areas of focus I’d prioritize when starting out.
You already have the skills. You just need to put yourself in the right position to sell them.
Apply these tips and take that first step towards the freelance life! Let me know how it goes.
