4 Ways to Improve Buyer Satisfaction Without Changing your Deliverable

Freelance Files #02: Buyer Satisfaction on Fiverr - An Art and a Science.

Hey there!

Welcome to Edition #02 of the Freelance Files. Your (not-so) weekly newsletter on all things Fiverr.

Today we’re going to debunk the myth that revolves around one of the most crucial aspects of freelancing on Fiverr - buyer satisfaction.

Believe it or not, this single metric can ultimately make or break your freelance career - and it has very little to do with the actual quality of work 🤯.

Counterintuitive, I know, but stay with me. Let’s dive in.

Buyer Satisfaction is NOT Just About Your Work

When I talk with with freelancers looking to improve their buyer satisfaction ratings, they go straight to the quality of their work. While quality is of course important, the reality is you’re probably already doing a great job.

What often goes overlooked is the critical role of the overall buyer experience. Satisfaction is an emotion. We need to figure out how to elicit it from our clients. Great work is just one of many methods we can use.

4 Ways to Improve Buyer Satisfaction Without Changing Your Deliverable

1. Collaboration - Keep Your Clients Involved

The most satisfying experiences are collaborative, not transactional. Engage your buyer, ask questions, give them choices, and make them feel like an integral part of the process.

The more they contribute to the end result, the more likely they’ll be satisfied with it!

2. Communication - Bridge to Understanding

Great work can still fall flat if you and the buyer aren’t on the same page.

You need to be transparent, responsive, and proactive in your communication. Update them frequently and make them feel included in every step of the way.

Whether it’s daily updates, progress reports, or sample snippets - figure out what works for you and what the buyer will appreciate.

No such thing as overcommunication in freelancing.

3. Unexpected Value - The 'Wow' Factor

My personal favorite - strive to offer more value than your client expects.

Whether it's delivering a day early, throwing in a free e-book, or overdelivering on your promises, clients love an unsolicited bonus that they didn’t see coming.

Take, for instance, the 'While You Wait' gift. As the name suggests, you surprise your customer while they’re waiting for the order with a small, but thoughtful and practical gift.

Here are a few examples of 'While You Wait' gifts you can consider:

  • A list of referrals for other sellers providing complementary services that your client might need.

  • An e-book filled with actionable tips on how to derive maximum value from your delivered work.

  • A 10% discount code for their next order.

The beauty of this strategy is that you invest time and effort to create these assets once, and then you can reuse them, adding an unexpected 'Wow' factor to every client's order experience.

Not only does this enhance the overall client experience, but it also shows your thoughtfulness and commitment to providing extra value. They go a long way in improving the buyer experience - especially for first time customers.

4. Aftercare - Maintaining Relationships Beyond Delivery

The buyer experience doesn't stop when you deliver your work. Schedule follow-ups, offer advice and support, and show that you genuinely care even after the transaction is completed. This not only fosters trust but also strengthens that emotional connection with your clients.

Oh, and it may keep you in good standing with your clients when Fiverr sends along their anonymous feedback email…

The Key Takeaway

It's all about HOW you deliver, not just WHAT you deliver.

Forget the notion that satisfaction is solely tied to your work's quality. Instead, start focusing on the overall experience you provide.
